The human cost of panic

I'm going to rant about something that has been bothering me.
We all know about the hysteria that has crippled our country.  (And many places in the world)  but the hysteria is going to have a more lasting and deadly effect than the disease that created it.
The following is an example.
Someone in my close orbit began having neck pain and stiffness last May. Since the hysteria was in full swing at the time,  they just chose to treat it with tylenol and rest. As we do someones,  this person came to live with the discomfort.
In early April,  the pain became worse and this person went to the doctor and got a body scan.  Then some biopsies and the diagnosis is stage 4 metastatic lung cancer that had migrated to glands.
The prognosis is bleak.
The moral of the story is that this would have been found a year ago if not for the childish fear of an entire society that led to the closure of routine healthcare.
Sadly,  no one will begin compiling statistics of people that died as a result of normal society being closed for business... but they should.
